 I
have read several books this week and I really liked them all, so it
was hard which one to choose. However, for this post I chose to write about the book that was the most
interesting: City of Ember
by Jeanne DuPrau. This book’s genre is fantasy and mystery, I think, though I
am not entirely sure. This is the first book of a series. The second is The People of Sparks, the third is the The Prophet of Yonwood and the final, fourth book is the The Diamond of Darkhold. I have only read the first book, but I will definitely go and pick the other books up.

This
story takes place in an underground world named the City of Ember.
Since the city is underground, there is no natural sunlight. The lights
are made by a huge machine. Since the machine is getting old, the lights
flicker on and off. As the city is running low on materials in the
storerooms and the lights began to fail, two teenagers, Lina and Doon
started finding a way out of the Ember.
I
give this book an 9/10 because I love how the story is based on a city
called Ember and which is underground. I really liked the author’s
imagination of an underground world, with people living there. I think
it is kind of disgusting, but in the same time, it is very new. It is disgusting for me because, it is underground. It could be dirty and looks really uncomfortable living in a world without sunlight.
I loved
all the characters that appeared in the book. Different characters with
different personalities and how the characters developed. Although I really liked the book, and especially the
characters and the setting, I would have made book, not a
series. I like when readers begin thinking about what it is going to
happen. Since this book is a series, if the first book doesn’t continue,
then you can on to the next book and find out. I would have just made
one book with no answer so that the readers can find out on their own. I would have just made it just one, whole book with everything in it.

I haven’t read much this week, but I have read one book over the week. It is called Hands Across the Moon by Jane. G Meyers. This book is like a book where two people write letters back and forth.
I have never read these types of books, so I was excited. However, after finishing the book, I was a
little disappointed that there were only two characters. There were few
characters that came in and out of the story, but not much detail. I
wish that there would be more characters in the book because it gets
boring if the same characters appear and no one else.

This
book is about two best friends, Gretchen and Mia. One day, Gretchen’s
dad got a professional job in Ecuador. When Gretchen left California,
they were planning to write letters to each other to keep in touch. In
Ecuador, Gretchen has problems, since she doesn’t speak the language the
country speaks and also, the bigger problem is that all her things did
not arrive yet. While back in California, Mia... has no big problems.
I
give this book a 7/10 because I didn’t really like the fact that there
were only two characters in the book. It was okay in the beginning,
however, as the story went on, since there were only two characters, it
got boring and it needed different kinds of characters with different
personalities. Maybe at least 3-4 characters because it would be more
interesting to read a book with more characters than only one or two. This is also like my life because I had a best friend that left to her home country few months ago, so I kind of know who Gretchen and Mia felt, leaving their best friend.

This book is called Good Luck
by Alex Rovira and Fernando Trias de Bes. I think the genre of the book
is fantasy and realistic-fiction. It is quite hard to say what genre it
is, but that is what I think.  The story is about Max and Jim, met
randomly in a park, turned old. Max had a great success in life,
however, Jim did not. This is a story is about how Max got successful by
a tale his grandfather told him long ago. It's about how good luck
doesn't come whenever you want them to, but have to work for them.
I
give this book a 8/10, because there were valuable lessons how you need
to work hard enough to have good luck. These valuable lessons could
help us in the future, or even now. I liked how they made it in to a tale. It like a little children's book. Also, the good thing about the book is
there is no age limit. Adults can read this and also the kids can read
this since it is easily written and can understand well and the book is pretty short, like about little more than 100pages, so this book is good for people who doesn't enjoy reading since it is short.

The book that I have been reading recently was Hatchet
by Gary Paulsen. It is an old book, however, it is very adventurous and
fun. The genre of the book is adventurous and realistic-fiction. The
book is about a young boy called Brian. His parents are divorced and is
moving around his parents houses. Brian was going to his father’s place
with a pilot though the Canadian wilderness. On the way to his father’s
house, the pilot had a sudden heart attack and dies. Since there is no
one to drive though the sky, the plane finally crashes down to a lake
somewhere deep in the forest. Later on, Brian learns how to survive on
his own in a place where is dangerous. Listen carefully of what is
coming, food, shelter and fire.

I
give this book a 8.5/10, because I think this book will be fantastic
for every age. I gave this book a 8.5/10 because although it was fun and
all, the thing that I didn’t like about the book was it was a little
too obvious. Plane crashing, then learning how to survive in the
wilderness. Couldn’t you obviously knew that this would happen?
This book’s genres were the genres that I don’t really read. I kind of
avoided these genres since I thought they would be boring and
unrealistic. I often read fantasy books. However, after finishing this
book, adventurous book types are so interesting because mostly it is
about someone adventuring and when a character is adventuring, for me, I
feel like I am in the situation that the character is in. Also,
realistic-fiction, I did avoided them, but not as much as the
adventurous genre. Realistic-fiction is something that can actually
could happen in real life. Like plane crash in the book. I never thought
that anyone would write a book about plane crash, but I guess Gary
Paulsen did! I was not interested in any of the genres in the book, but
now I am. I really recommend it to adults and children to read this
book.
